Cancer Diagnostics and Management
Every cancer is unique. Let us treat it that way
Cancer Diagnostics and Management
Cancer is of major concern to us. We have taken it upon ourselves to be part of the solution to this growing problem. Our cancer diagnostics and management division seeks to overcome the challenges posed by cancer’s complexity, adaptability and evolution through scientific and clinical excellence, research and innovation. You need to understand that, just like humans, each cancer is unique. As such, there is need to treat it with unique strategies.
Personalised Cancer Care and Therapy
The Personalised Cancer Care and Therapy is a key branch of the institute that diagnoses several types of cancer. Depending on the type of cancer, we can then expose cancerous tissues or isolated cells to an array of conventional and experimental therapies. Our personalised cancer therapy pipeline includes all key aspects of preclinical research and development that guides doctors towards the provision of individualised patient management. We collaborate with oncological specialists and diagnostic laboratories in Zimbabwe and abroad to ensure improved cancer outcomes. At the institute, we have adopted a set of assays that enable us to characterise the tumour, determine changes in the cancer microenvironment, and provide valuable information that enables doctors to offer appropriate diagnosis, and deliver targeted and data driven surgery, chemotherapy, cell-based therapy, radiation therapy or immunity boosting treatments. We also offer an extensive catalogue of diagnostics that can help in the early detection, management and personalised treatment of cancer. Breast and Ovarian Cancer
According to the latest statistics, 1 in 8 women of the general population (or 12%) will suffer from breast cancer during their lifetime, whereas ovarian cancer affects a smaller proportion of women, with a percentage of 1.6%. The cancer treatment effectiveness is greater when the disorder is detected during its initial stages, thus reducing mortality rates. In a considerable number of cases, the disorder is hereditary, and it is associated with mutations in certain genes inherited from one parent to the offspring. 50-70% of hereditary cases of breast and/or ovarian cancer have been correlated with mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 (commonly BRCA1) genes that exhibit high penetrability. We obtain a blood sample or biopsy from concerning lumps in your breast, and use our inhouse technologies to detect these gene mutations. For peace of mind, consult us today!
