Our Principle
Cell Biotech is pursuing leading science to deliver novel natural and cell-directed therapies and use and smart approaches to monitor and defeat cancer, diabetes and other rare and complex diseases. With this strategy, CBI seeks to impact lives of all patients in Zimbabwe and the rest of the region.
We are motivated to contribute to home grown solutions for the benefit of our unique population in Southern Africa.
Our Approach
Our methods include tissue acquisition, cell culturing, omics tools (genomics, proteomics, metabolomics), mesoscale to high throughput drug screening, data analytics, drug selection, and opinion formulation. We work round the clock to ensure that our protocols are in tune with the most recent developments within the field.
Our target is to end up with a number of approved therapies ranging from natural medicines (probiotics and herbal medicines) all the way to innovative cellular therpeutics including CAR T-cell therapies)

Cellular Technology
In vitro cell culture technology is central to our work. This technology underlies all the research and development activities within our pipeline. With this technology, we are able to transfer a disease into a petri dish, and determine its pathophysiological parameters, as well as determine the disease's response to drugs.
Fluorescence Microscopy
In vitro optical imaging using fluorescence and bioluminescence is superior to other methods in terms of spatiotemporal resolution and specificity, and represents an important innovation that allows for the comprehensive cell death and cell cycle analysis, thus allowing us to understand the pathogenesis of diseases such as cancer, diabetes and other metabolic diseases, as well as a host of non-communicable diseases.
Genomics
Genomics allows us to detect genes that underlie diseases, including breast cancer and so forth. Genomics is therefore the basis for all our personlised medicine studies and services. Our genomics unit also serves as a service hub that helps scientists with their genomics research. Utracentrifugation
Ultracentrifugation is an important technology that allows us to purify, as well as characterize, low-molecular weight polymers including proteins and organelles, thus allowing us to isolate and study selected compounds and cell components. Ultracentrifugation is therefore one of the most important and essential technologies within our drug discovery pipeline.
Automation in Research
Automation in biomedical research allows us to produce highly replicable results, thus allowing us to come up with the best evidence based medical opinions. We keep adding autometed pieces of equipment to our inventory for the same reason.
Immunology
Immunology is central to all biomedical research, as it allows us to detect a disease within a host, and to understand interactions between drugs and the host. Immunology is the basis for disease diagnostics and drug discovery.
Haematology
Largely based on immunology, haematology involves the diagnosis and treatment of patients who have disorders of the blood and bone marrow.
Diagnostics
Diagnostic tests are any kind of medical tests that are performed to aid in the diagnosis or detection of disease. We use standardised diagnostic kits to detect infections.
CBI Biobank
The CBI Biobank is a biorepository where we deposit, processe, store, and from which we draw specimens and data for research and clinical studies. As part of our personalised medicine drive, the biobank becomes an essential driver that allows us to offer focussed atention to each disease episode and to each individual patient relative to their needs.
CBI Clinics
The CBI Clinics are centres for disease diagnosis, management, and small procedures under the care of our team of doctors.
CBI Natural Medicines
The CBI Natural Medicines unit conducts research and innovation activities that yield a variety of natural medicines, ranging from probiotics, through herbal to cell based therapeutics. We endeavour to be a centre of excellence in the area of cell based therapeutics.
CBI School of Biomedical Sciences
The CBI School of Biomedical Sciences is a hub for education and training in the field of biomedical sciences. We offer periodic training to ensure biomedical professionals stay abreast with current developments in the field. We will also be rolling out a number of ZIMCHE accredited programmes within the area of Biomedical Sciences.
