Careers · Biotechnology for Africa

Join the Cream Team

We are delivering next-generation biotechnology for health, agriculture and industry across 24 countries — serving over 128,000 patients, farmers and partners.

At Cell Biotech Institute, we don't just observe science; we build practical, homegrown solutions for African conditions. We partner with only the cream among scientists — individuals ready to move from the bench to commercial impact. If you are driven by scientific rigor, end-to-end ownership and solutions that change lives, we invite you to build the cream team with us.

Open pathways

We are looking for

Three ways to join the team — as a scientist, a fellow or an intern.

Scientists

All divisions

Are you a working scientist, not a generalist advisor? We need subject-matter experts to lead applied R&D across our core divisions:

  • Medical & Pharmaceutical Biotech — molecular diagnostics, genetics, biomanufacturing, probiotics
  • Agricultural & Plant Biotech — soil microbiology, biofertilisers, bioremediation
  • Food & Feed Science — product development, shelf-life studies, microbiology
  • Aquatic & Animal Biotech — veterinary diagnostics, fish health, vaccine development
  • Cosmeceuticals & Industrial Biotech — botanical actives, fermentation, extraction tech

Your mission: turn a bench idea into a manufacturable, validated and commercialisable product that solves real African health and agricultural challenges.

Fellows

Early-career researchers

Are you a recent graduate or early-stage researcher looking to accelerate your career? Our Fellowship programme is your gateway to high-impact science:

  • Work directly with our in-house scientific teams at Innovation Park, Harare
  • Gain hands-on experience in molecular biology, microbiology and veterinary diagnostics
  • Contribute to projects that go beyond theory — right into industry deployment

We provide the mentorship, the lab capability and the real-world data to turn you into a future leader in African biotech.

Apply as fellows

Interns

Industrial attachments

Are you a student or recent graduate eager to learn how a real biotech institute operates? Our internship (industrial attachment) programme offers:

  • Practical skills across our full lab capacity — molecular, food, soil, veterinary and microbiology testing
  • Exposure to quality systems, biosafety and method development
  • A front-row seat to how we deliver R&D for food manufacturers, hospitals, pharma companies and NGOs

We are seated in Africa for African problems — you will work with local crops, local climates, local supply chains and local regulations, preparing you for the industry right here.
